Charter of CSSA-Greenwich Assembly

Edition of 2008 – 2009 academic year

Report to the Assembly in Februry 2009

Introduction

This Charter specifies the nature of CSSA-Greenwich Assembly and its current framework in the 2008 – 2009 academic year. This document is produced and made availabe for scrutiny by the General Assembly in February 2009. A public hearing will be held between 18 February and 1 March to collect any relevant comments and suggestions of essential amendament. The final version of the Charter shall be published on the webpage of CSSA-Greenwich on or after this period. The previous CSSA-Greenwich Executive Committee and its presidium is scheduled to cease function on 1 March 2009 and their administrative role shall be transferred to the Great Assembly and its Steering Group respectively.

CSSA-Greenwich and CSSA-UK

Chinese Students and Scholars Association, Greenwich (CSSA-Greenwich) is a non-political and non-for-profit organisation registered at the Students’ Union, the University of Greenwich to represent all the Chinese students and scholars living and working in the London Region of Greenwich. The association was founded in 2006 by a group of Chinese students and scholars in the University of Greenwich led by Dr. XIE, Ying, a Senior lecturer in the School of Business. CSSA-Greenwich is one of the 80 CSSAs across the British Isles coordinated by CSSA-UK which is an equivalent body to represent all the Chinese students and scholars in the United Kingdom. A number of senior CSSA-Greenwich members also sit on the CSSA-UK Executive or Standing Committee. CSSA-Greenwich encourages its members to work and contribute to the development of CSSA-UK.

CSSA-Greenwich Assembly

The juristiction and power in decsion-making of CSSA-Greenwich is held by the General Assembly which currently comprises 34 members. Joining the assembly is on a vounteering basis and subject to approval by senior staff of the Steering Group. All members of the Assembly shall have the right to elect and be elected as President during the General Election. All members of the Assembly also have the right to interepellate or impeach their President and other senior staff over their work or decision-making, or vote upon request by the Steering Group on particular matter. Any member of the Assembly can be appointed by the Steering Group to serve as the Director or Coordinator of a particular project or commission irrespective of their position in the Assembly.

Membership

All members of the Assembly have the equal rights and status to serve and take part in activities organised by CSSA-Greenwich. However those who have served CSSA-Gre with a lengthy period or have made remarkable contributions recognised by their peers shall be awarded with senior membership. This award shall be made by the Steering Group and generally reviewed at regular interval.

The Steering Group

All the senior members of the Assembly form the Steering Group which serves as a deputy of the Assembly on immediate decision-making while the discussion within the whole assembly is not possible. The Steering Group also serves as a privy advisory board to assist President and Honorary President on daily liaison and services. Joining the Steering Group (and hence to be awarded with senior membership) shall be nominated by two senior members of the Assembly and approved by President or Honorary President. The Steering Group shall meet once a month or upon request by the President to exert its function.

Senior Consultants Committee

CSSA-Greenwich has invited a number of teaching and academic staff from the University of Greenwich to sit on the Senior Consultants Committee. They have made significant contribution to the development of the Association. Currently the committee is made up of 8 Members, includes: Dr. ZHAO, Minghua, Prof. LI, Chunqing, Dr. XIE, Ying, Dr. CHEN, Jian, Dr. MA, Jixin, Mr. LIN, Xinfa, Ms. Jane BLABD and Dr. CHENG, Yu.

Mailing list of the Assembly

Most important affairs regarding CSSA-Greenwich shall be sent to and discussioned by all the members of the Assembly through the mailing list. Post to the mailing list: chinwich@googlegroups.com

Framework of the Assembly

Service of CSSA-Greenwich is divided into 7 divisions each served by a number of members of the Assembly. The tourism service is currently directed by Mr. FU, Guodong in coordination with staff from the daily liasion and services.
